The NGO
At the intersection of art and social well-being, we are committed to researching and enhancing the positive effects of art in areas such as health, education, violence reduction, peacebuilding, among others.
The Power of Arts Foundation is a think tank and action center dedicated to exploring and strengthening the connection between art, public health, human rights, development and well-being. Founded by a group of artists, researchers, and educators led by Sebastián León-Giraldo, our foundation is born from the conviction that art is a transformative force capable of improving the quality of life for individuals and communities.
We focus on three main pillars: research, to highlight the positive impact of art in society; education, through the development of programs that use art as a tool for learning and social change; and visibility, to promote and share the beneficial effects of art through publications, events and digital content.
Additionally, we are committed to the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of social projects, employing innovative artistic methods that not only enhance the experience and impact of these initiatives but also underscore the crucial role of art in generating creative and sustainable solutions.
The Power of Arts: Public presentations and events.
Over the past two years, our NGO has been at the forefront of discussions in Bogota, Colombia, on the vital role of arts in society. We have organized diverse events where experts have explored the intersections of arts with health, human rights, and other important topics
Current Projects
1. The Impact of Arts in Society: A Global Perspective
In collaboration with Universidad de los Andes, this project aims to explore the profound effects of art across various aspects of society such as public health, human rights, education, and violence reduction. Through interviews with researchers, academics, community leaders, and civil organizations, we seek to uncover and highlight the transformative power of artistic expression. By examining diverse perspectives and empirical evidence, we advocate for integrating arts-based interventions into social policies and community practices to catalyze positive social change.
2. The Role of Arts as a Coping Strategy for Transgender Youth in Colombia
In partnership with Universidad de los Andes and La Liga de Salud Trans of Colombia, this project focuses on understanding how art practices serve as essential coping mechanisms for transgender youth. Through exploring creative expressions and narratives within this community, we aim to illuminate how art promotes resilience, supports mental well-being, and empowers individuals facing unique societal challenges. By engaging in participatory research and artistic exploration, we aim to amplify the voices and experiences of transgender youth, advocating for recognition and support of their artistic endeavors as integral parts of their personal and collective journeys.
