The Future of Human Rights in the Digital Age

We use a transnational participatory action research approach, centring the voices and leadership of diverse young adults to define the future of human rights in the digital age.

The «Future of Human Rights in the Digital Age» project, is an initiative under the Digital Health and Rights Project (DHRP) consortium. The consortium includes the University of Warwick, GNP+, VNP+, KELIN, Privacy International, Restless Development, STOPAIDS, and Universidad de los Andes.

The project has three main areas:

  1. Research: The project uses transnational participatory action research to engage young adults in understanding digital governance.
  2. Advocacy: By involving young adults and civil society at all levels, the project aims to influence policy discussions and promote human rights in the digital sphere. This includes participation in global and national advocacy to promote human rights in the governance of artificial intelligence and technology.
  3. Digital Empowerment/Pedagogy: The project focuses on enhancing digital literacy and providing youth leadership training. It includes developing training materials and resources to support digital literacy and advocacy efforts, creating an online hub with courses and training materials for public use.

As a research professional at Universidad de los Andes, I am part of the team in Bogotá, Colombia, where the project is led by Catalina González Uribe. Our work involves collaborating with local communities to ensure their voices are represented in the research and policy-making processes.

This initiative aims to create equitable and inclusive digital environments, advocating for the integration of human rights principles into digital policy-making. The project’s findings are expected to influence global and national policies on digital governance, emphasizing the importance of protecting human rights in an increasingly digital world.
